Stamina
...

This is a homebrew derivative of the official Stamina variant rules from the Gamemastery Guide.

Differences from the official variant

  1. Anything that restores Hit Points also restore Stamina Points. Restore missing Hit Points first, followed by missing Stamina Points.
  2. Your maximum Stamina Points are reduced by your missing Hit Points.
  3. Stabilizing via resolve points isn't available (stabilizing via Hero Points is unchanged).
  4. The Rally exploration activity isn't available (as a simplification).
  5. The Encouraging Words feat isn't available (as a simplification).

Stamina Points
...

Stamina Points represent a character's energy and readiness. They're reduced by damage just like Hit Points, but a character first loses any temporary Hit Points, then excess damage is dealt to Stamina Points, and any remaining damage is dealt to Hit Points.

A character's maximum Stamina Points is reduced by the number of their missing Hit Points. This represents the lasting effect of serious injuries. A character who takes damage to Stamina Points but loses no Hit Points is seen as sustaining superficial injuries/exhaustion that recover with a short breather and light bandaging.

Hit Points still determine whether a character remains conscious — a character at 0 HP is unconscious, no matter how many Stamina Points they have.

Level Progression
...

At level 0, a PC gains their full ancestry Hit Points as usual. At first level and every subsequent level, they gain the Stamina Points and Hit Points listed for their class in the table below. This replaces the normal Hit Points a character gains for their class in a standard game.

Stamina PointsHit PointsClasses
3 + Con modifier3Psychic, Sorcerer, Witch, Wizard
4 + Con modifier4Alchemist, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Gunslinger, Inventor, Investigator, Kineticist, Magus, Oracle, Rogue, Thaumaturge
5 + Con modifier5Champion, Fighter, Monk, Ranger, Summoner, Swashbuckler
6 + Con modifier6Barbarian

This progression is the same as the official variant, so you can use any tooling that supports the official Stamina variant rules to calculate and track these values.

Stamina Recovery
...

Anything that restores Hit Points also restore Stamina Points. Restore missing Hit Points first, followed by missing Stamina Points. A character regains up to their current maximum Stamina Points after a full night's rest.

Resolve Points
...

Each PC also has a pool of Resolve Points, representing their intrinsic grit and luck. A character's maximum Resolve Points is equal to their key ability modifier, and a character regains all their Resolve Points with a full night's rest. A PC can spend Resolve Points to regain Stamina Points as described for the Take a Breather exploration activity or the Steel Your Resolve feat action below.
